And I know God deserves all credit for the inspiration and strength He gave me for this project: my DIY small apartment bedroom makeover.

If you see my bedroom makeover before and after pictures, you’d probably wonder how I was able to redecorate my small apartment bedroom on a budget and still come up with such a modern, luxurious look.

Well.. it took time, sweat, some cash, yes, but most importantly, lots of creative juices to pull it off.

If you’re looking to do your own bedroom makeover or simply looking for small bedroom design ideas or upgrades, read on below.

Bedroom walls

I completely repainted my walls WHITE. This brought back that refreshing clean, classy atmosphere to the room.

DIY Bed with Tufted Headboard

Believe it or not, I myself put together my own bed - headboard and all.

Yep. I purchased the wood, the foam, and the fabric, and assembled it all together.

Here's how I did it step by step:
  1. I cut the foam and glued it to one side of the wood planks

  2. I wrapped them with the fabric and stapled the edges to secure it

  3. For my tufted headboard, I first first drew the layout on the wood so I know where the buttons will go.

  4. Then I drilled the holes for the buttons.

  5. Wrapped it with foam and fabric, leaving only the back side exposed

  6. I sewed the buttons into the holes while carefully creating the fold pattern

  7. I assembled all the pieces together using angular brackets

  8. I added 3 pieces of 1x4” wood to the bottom of the box spring to serve as the bed’s footing

This bed took me 6 days to build.

DIY Bedroom Storage

So I found out that many people buy kitchen cabinets from Ikea but then the fixtures don't work out for their house.

The cost of these shelves is $44 a piece, but when customers bring them back to the store they resell it at a much cheaper price.

How cheap? ...$9.99 - I know, right!

So I got 5 of them which were already assembled and built myself a fancy storage for my bedroom.

  1. To connect the shelves together, I first held them in place using clamps

  2. I then drilled holes in them using a countersink bit and drill

  3. I then secured them together in one piece using wood screws

I also got a wood desk top from Ikea then had it cut in half at Home Depot. I placed that on top of the shelves then covered it with a gorgeous stick-and-peel marble contact paper.

Bedroom Mirror Installation

I got a full size mirror for my bedroom which I absolutely love. It’s my light bouncer.

To install my mirror, I simply leaned it on my wall leaving a few inches gap on the lower portion. Then I fixed the bracket to secure it in place.

A great accessory that I added to it is my Brynet LED Picture light. I installed it right above my mirror then I hid the cable behind the mirror for a clean look. I also placed the switch behind the mirror and kept it in place using velcro.
